Frogs and bogs

One of the last tadpoles to emerge as a frog looks on rather mournfully at the bewildering landscape, or maybe it is just that it has missed the summer and has only the winter to look forward to. Meanwhile a dragonfly makes a low pass darting over the same pond from where the frog recently emerged.

Wald Hotel - Demolition

The last floors of the Wald Hotel bit the dust this afternoon leaving just fresh air where the hotel once stood. The diggers now have the tiresome job of sorting through the rubble to separate wood from metal and concrete from plastic. The open space certainly gives Sommerberg a less oppressive feel but how it will be once the new restaurant and hotel have been built remains to be seen.

In the Bad Wildbad Kurpark last night the spectacular annual Enz valley illuminations took place despite the cold, wet weather. Rain doused many of the thousands of candles that made up the displays but it failed to affect visitor’s spirits. It was a fantastic show so if you have never been make sure you check it out in 2010, you will not be disappointed.

Wald Hotel - demolition day 5

Moments before the upper floors fell

This afternoon the top floors collapsed into a cloud of dust, which was thankfully contained by rain and a well-aimed fire hose. The view from my lounge window changed forever … was that silver glint on the horizon the Pforzheim Sparkasse.

As we move into autumn the weather turns bringing grey clouds and rain. Meanwhile the Wald hotel is still standing but looking rather the worst for wear today.
